Chinese Artist Couple Inspires Dubai with “Sanctuary of Freedom” Exhibition at Samia Art Gallery
The Chinese artist duo Amanda Guo and Ziming Tian welcomed art lovers today to their first exhibition in the Middle East, Sanctuary of Freedom: An Endless Dream, Born of the Heart, hosted by Samia Art Gallery in Al Quoz 3, Dubai. The exhibition runs from May 8–12 and features a vibrant collection of paintings and sculptures that reflect their years of creative exploration.
Guo and Tian, originally from Datong in Northern China, have lived and worked across Central Asia, Europe, and throughout China. They are known for their deep commitment to both travel and artistic creation, developing a visual language that blends landscapes, spirituality, and poetic reflection.
“In my hometown Datong, there are so many temples reflecting a thousand years of history, and from there we get most of our inspiration. We also get inspired when we travel, but the basic flair of creativity lies in China, which is in our heart,” said Ziming Tian.
Their journey eventually led them to Chengdu, Sichuan—a city renowned for its cultural openness and peaceful rhythm—where they founded the YILIANG Gallery, named after their son, Tian Yiliang. The name symbolizes their personal and artistic journey rooted in love, family, and expression.
“Our artworks reflect a lot of emotions, our daily lives in China, nature, and the colorful life of our family,” shared Amanda Guo.
Sanctuary of Freedom is co-hosted by YILIANG Gallery and Samia Art, Dubai’s first Chinese-founded art gallery. This exhibition opens a cultural dialogue between China’s contemporary artistic voices and the diverse creative scene of the Middle East. Through their work, the artists invite audiences to reflect on freedom, faith, and the universal search for belonging.
This cross-cultural collaboration represents a rare opportunity to experience art that begins in Chengdu and finds new meaning in the vibrant, global city of Dubai.
